Caroline had applied to go on the children’s activity holiday with her children. During a meeting with her caseworker she became tearful and disclosed that she had suffered domestic abuse from her ex-partner in the past. Noting that although the relationship had ended, it was something that was still causing her stress and anxiety.
She recognised the negative impact it was having on her own parenting, as shown by her children’s behaviour at school, but struggled to understand why abuse was still having such an affect, even though her partner had left some time ago.
A referral to our counselling service was discussed, though initially dismissed, but after having some time to think, Caroline reconsidered and was seen by a therapist two weeks later.
One year on, Caroline has enrolled in University, and a lifelong dream of becoming a Physiotherapist is in sight. Her children feel more settled, happy and safe.
