A helping hand!

We speak to Gwen about her volunteering

Gwen, who originally hails from Blairdardie, Glasgow, started to volunteer with us after her retirement in 2020. It was the link between Scotland and her fellow Scots that made volunteering with us initially attractive.

In her main role on reception at our office in City Road, Gwen uses the skills she gained during her professional life. But Gwen has helped the charity in a variety of roles – reception work, administrative support, supporting our tech buddy tablet scheme and assisting staff on stalls at community outreach events. Gwen noted that working on the stall and chatting to Scots and other supporters has enabled her to develop some new skills too.

About volunteering at ScotsCare, Gwen said:

“To anyone considering a volunteer role at ScotsCare, I would tell them about all the wonderful work the charity does, how long it has been going and how much it helps many vulnerable Scots who would probably not get this help elsewhere. Volunteers are valued and their contribution is regularly acknowledged. The staff are welcoming and friendly and it’s a great charity to be involved with.”

Gwen enjoys the diversity of roles she supports the charity with and noted the benefits; it’s given her the opportunity to meet more volunteers and staff members and develop new friendships.
